2.20.23 'Lil Wayne Added As A Playable Character In NBA 2K23' | Written by Corleone
Published on October 5th, 2023 -- The rapper Lil Wayne has a new career in the video game series "NBA 2K", which is published by Take-Two Interactive and Electronic Arts. In this case, he will be part of the roster for the fifth installment of the series, "NBA 2K23". It was announced on August 24, 2011 that Lil Wayne would join the ranks as one of the new playable characters in NBA 2K23.
He joins an already impressive list of celebrities who have made it into the game including 50 Cent, Will Smith, Justin Timberlake and Matthew McConaughey. This isn't the first time that a hip hop artist has been added to the game either. The previous versions of the game featured Snoop Dogg in 2009 and Kanye West in 2008.
"I am very excited about being a part of such an iconic franchise," said Lil Wayne. "This is a great opportunity for me to engage with my fans through a new medium."
It's hard not to feel like you're really playing basketball when you have Lil Wayne on your side. Whether he scores or not, he'll definitely make the game more fun. He's also known to show up at some games to cheer for his favorite teams so maybe he'll even come out to play.
This year, Lil Wayne began working on an album that's a tribute to the late Tupac Shakur. The album, which was released on September 13th, will be called "Tupac: Resurrection." Wayne and his producer Detail said they wanted this album to reflect what Pac would have sounded like if he hadn't died at age 25 back in 1996. According to Detail, the new album will not only feature rap songs but also "some acoustic ballads" from Pac as well.
The two rappers are planning to release some music videos for the upcoming album before it gets its official launch date. They'll start with the video for their debut single titled "Thugz Mansion", which is scheduled to drop next week.
In addition to releasing "Thugz Mansion," Wayne has been dropping hints about the other singles. He's already dropped one song called "Pac's Life" featuring Kendrick Lamar. In an interview with Billboard Magazine, Wayne said he's got three more songs coming out before the end of summer. While details of the album are still under wraps, fans can expect Wayne to try and do his best impression of Pac on the new tracks. In fact, he even went as far as saying he wants to get a tattoo dedicated to Pac after the album comes out.
After all, this isn't the first time that Wayne has tried to pay homage to Pac. His last studio album, 2010's "I Am Not A Human Being II" contained a track called "Dear Mama." The song featured guest vocals by Ghostface Killah, Snoop Dogg, and Wayne's mother. Wayne says he hopes the upcoming album will help him finally move past the controversy surrounding his past lyrics about women and violence toward them.
Back in 2011, there were a number of lawsuits against Wayne over the so-called "rape" reference in his songs.
During an interview with Howard Stern, Weezy explained that he had a conversation with Tupac while recording the song. “He (Tupac) asked me a question… he goes, 'Do you think I'm going to die?' And I told him no, because I felt like his heart was pure, and he wasn't gonna die. But then, when we finished the song, he said, 'You know what? You're right. There's a lot of people who don't deserve to live.' So, that's why the song is called 'Dear Mama' — because I put myself in his shoes. That's how I feel. I don't want to lose my mama."
Wayne also revealed that Pac had given him a piece of advice while recording the song. “He was like, 'Keep your head up, man. Because you don't need a woman to be happy,'” Wayne recalled.
