2.20.23 "Kayne West in turmoil w/Addias?" | Written by Corleone
The rapper's sudden departure from the company came after a long list of accusations that he'd used slave labor to make his Yeezys. The controversy forced him out of the business in which he was once so successful. Now, it appears as if companies are reconsidering their future relationship with the hip-hop star.
According to Page Six, one of the first brands to sever ties with West was Adidas. Just last week, they announced plans to drop their sponsorship deals with West and Pusha T. It had been reported that the rapper had been using child labor to make his Yeezy line. When news broke last month, he released a video on social media denying those reports. However, the damage was already done. And the company decided to cut ties with both stars.
“After careful consideration, we have terminated our partnership with Kanye West and will no longer work with him," an Adidas spokesperson told Page Six. "We appreciate Kanye's enthusiasm but believe strongly in aligning ourselves with partners who share our values." Soon after, it was revealed that West would also be losing the use of his private jet. According to TMZ, the plane belongs to Bankable Air Charter, and the company is still under contract for at least six months. They were set to provide the vehicle to West until September 2019. But now, it seems as if they won't have to foot the bill.
The reason why they're cutting ties with the rapper might be because of his past tweets about President Trump. Kanye sent out a series of messages aimed at his 45th president. In the posts, he praised the MAGA hat, and stated that he believes he'll help black people. "You don't have to agree with trump but the mob can't make me not love him," he wrote. "We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don't agree with everything anyone does. That's what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought."
West went on to say that he thinks Trump's approach to politics could actually help the black community. “He doesn't even understand how government works! Lol but point is... Don't block me in," he added. "I amdragon energy."
It's unclear if this latest controversy is affecting the sales of his Yeezy brand. We know that his wife, Kim Kardashian West, has tried to give some of her husband's merchandise away to charity. She started doing this back in June when she visited a children's hospital in Los Angeles. The event was held by the Children's Hospital L.A., and there was an amazing turnout.
Kimye got a ton of attention during their visit. Thousands of fans showed up to see them, and the entire parking lot was filled with vehicles. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star donated a huge pile of her husband's clothing, shoes, and accessories to the hospital. She wanted to bring some happiness to the sick kids, so she spent time playing with them.
She gave them all a pair of his Yeezy sneakers. At the time, she made it clear that they didn't come cheap. These particular models of his shoes sell for $220. During her visit, Kim also handed out some other items that were gifted to her. Kanye had given her a few pairs of his Yeezys, and now she's giving them away for free. “For the last couple weeks I've been testing new prototypes of Yeezy sneakers," Kardashian wrote on Instagram. "My goal is to create a shoe with superior comfort, better cushioning, lighter weight and an improved heel counter. My team and I worked hard and developed several options for you all to try.”
She included a link to her website, where fans could find more details about the giveaway. “To enter, please send an email to yeezygiveaway@gmail.com with your name and shipping address,” she explained. “Contest closes December 15th at 12pm PST. Good luck!” Kardashian also revealed that the winner would be chosen at random. And the lucky recipient would also get a signed note from the reality star herself.
